Cognitive Behavioural Exercise Program for Chronic Pain (Modified Pilates)

This is a 10 week, one hour per week, exercise program taught by the Ennis Centre’s team physiotherapist.  It gives participants an important skill to help them cope with chronic pain.

The format of the program involves 10 one hour mat exercise sessions using modified Pilates, specifically designed for patients with chronic pain. Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility and long, lean muscles, strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing to relieve stress and allows adequate oxygen flow to muscles, developing a strong core or center and improving coordination and balance.

Pilates’ flexible system allows for exercises to be modified to meet the needs of specific patients.  No muscle group is under or over trained.  Most important, Modified Pilates is safe for the vast majority of patients.
