Some patients who could benefit from group therapy are unable to attend. Barriers
include distance, work and language. Under these circumstances, an individualized
multidisciplinary program is developed. Typically these programs include input from
ECPM’s physician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker and nurse
What separates the ECPM’s individual therapy program from typical one-to-one therapy is that our treatment always includes functional activation. It is central to our treatment. It is absolutely necessary in the treatment of chronic noncancer pain. Typically individual therapy is not the ideal treatment for chronic pain although it is helpful for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. However, with our functional activation component, individual therapy at ECPM has been demonstrated to lead to a positive change in mood and function.
