Acupuncture

The Ennis Centre for Pain Management (ECPM) is fortunate to have a
physiotherapist with over twenty years’ experience in treating patients with chronic
pain. She is a graduate of McMaster University’s Contemporary Medical
Acupuncture program and is ECPM’s acupuncturist.

Acupuncture offers patients a safe alternative or adjunct to medication management.
This ancient system of healing was developed as part of the traditional medicine of
China, Japan and other eastern countries. It has found increasing acceptance in
western medical practice, particularly in pain relief.

The current practices have evolved into a system of medicine that restores and
maintains health by the insertion of fine needles into points (called acupuncture
points or acupoints) just below the surface of the skin. These points are in very
specific locations. In modern acupuncture, the needles are stimulated by using a
small electric current. This is called electro-acupuncture. This is the type of
acupuncture practiced at the ECPM.
